ROBERT MAPPLETHORPE Kathy Acker LISA LYON Barbara Kruger ZG MAGAZINE 9
Very rare issue of the eclectic British concept art and culture magazine ZG with a cover featuring a portrait of Dennis Speight by legendary New York photographer Robert Mapplethorpe who was a regular muse of Mapplethorpe's.
A really fantastic issue including excerpts from cult writer Kathy Acker's new novel 'The Death, The Life of Pier Paulo Passolini', a feature by artist Barbara Kruger on Acker's irreverent life and style, an article by infamous cultural critic Sylvere Lotringer on the loss of meaning in contemporary media, plus a great interview with a youthful actor/playwright Eric Bogosian. Plus brilliant writing on fascism, the UK art world, unemployment in Liverpool, and the future of rock videos.
Also includes a great essay on Robert Mapplethorpe's photography written by artist Dena Shottenkirk ahead of Mapplethorpe's big UK exhibition at the ICA in late 1983. Images include Mapplethorpe photographs of Lady Lisa Lyon
Contributors in this issue include Michael Boodro, Merope Lolis, Jonathan Miles, Brian Hatton, Howard Halle, Steve Roeser and others.
Founded in 1980 by Rosetta Brooks, ZG is a kaleidoscopic mix of high and lowbrow culture with each issue a heady mix of art, theory, radical politics, sexuality, visual culture, science and literature with contributions from writers, artists and photographers in London and New York.
Very good condition with some crease marks on cover and throughout. The magazine was folded by the publisher and has a noticeable central fold line on cover (see images). We store it opened out and flat and will post it that way.
