Comme Homme Plus

"Six" [“Six Sense”] was innovative Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo's groundbreaking in-house magazine produced to promote her line Comme des Garcons.  Published semi-annually between 1988 and 1991 to coincide with CDG's Spring and Fall collections, it ran for a mere eight issues, and was distributed hors commerce only to a select number of clients, fashion insiders and the label's boutiques - it was never made commercially available for sale.

There’s an undeniable allure that surrounds the obscure. The latter of which is something Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons has spent decades mastering. Wanting to explore the idea of the sixth sense, she transported her rebellious attitude from design to print and created Six in 1988. The unstapled, A3 biannual publication was shrouded in mystery. Not a single word was printed on the inside of the eight issues that marked the new season’s collection. Instead, abstract photography, illustrations and artworks were a visual delicacy for the reader. Despite its three year reign, publishing the the last issue in 1991, Six still remains an iconic cult creation that included the works of Peter Lindbergh, Gilbert and George and Bruce Weber.

This excellent copy issue No 8 of this oversized Japanese periodical includes portfolios by Gilbert & George and Jean Paul Gaultier including also Comme des Garcons fashion images from 1982 - 1987.  Also included are portraits of actor John Malkovitch who was used in Comme fashion campaigns.

Six is said to be the largest format many of have these artists have been reproduced in aside from actual prints of their work.

Images are all full colour black and white plates, full bleed, some DPS.
