Pop Weekly was promoted as a new concept in the pop press. The magazine began in February 1962 as Pop Ten Monthly, which ran until the end of August. On September 1, 1962, it became Pop Weekly under the stewardship of Albert Hand. It claimed to be first magazine to combine up-to-the-minute news reports, articles on all of the most popular artists and groups of the day together with fabulous shots of the stars. Most of the photos were exclusive to the magazine and they were not reproduced elsewhere. Pop Weekly also attempted a serious, considered tone in an effort to distinguish itself from its competitors in the music press.
Publication ended with the issue of February 12, 1966.
