There are very rare and unusual Robert Mapplethorpe editorial shoots inside this stunning magazine from the 1980's called Vanity. Vanity was an amazing magazine that only ran for 30 or so issues. It was created by Anna Piaggi and Antonio Lopez.
The cover is a typically brilliant illustration by Matt Ott.
The Mapplethorpe portraits are unusual for him as they feature mixed colours in the lighting (and backgrounds) and dramatic lighting effects when he went on to be known more for his classical B+W approach and simple elegant flower pictures. We've never seen these before, the magazine is Italian making it very rare indeed!! 8 amazing pages.
William Burroughs is also featured with a stunning colour portrait by Mapplethorpe, again very rare.
We are really blown away by the amazing fashion illustrations! There are many pages of stunning illustrations (see photos) Ingrid Bergman is depicted in one movie start themed illustrated editorial.
Also featured PAOLO PASOLINI, Fendi and Fortuny.
The great designer Alexander Liberman of US Vogue is credited as the director of editorial.
