This is a rare and remarkable issue of Harpers Bazaar with a stunning Saul Steinberg illustrated cover of the Paris city icon 'The July Column'. Vintage post-war British edition of Harpers Bazaar magazine, which is dated October 1947.
Steinberg (known now for his contributions to Esquire and The New Yorker for many years) has depicted four unique versions of this monument to the revolution of 1830 in a virtuoso display of illustration.
This fantastic issue reports on the Autumn Collections in Paris with photography by the great Richard Avedon in his Paris pomp of several Christian Dior pieces and from Dior's 2nd ever collection (his first was February 1947). Contains an outtake of one of Avedon's iconic images that was later reproduced for his famous 'Portfolio' and more recently shown at Hamilton's Gallery in London for the Avedon exhibition; "Renee, The New Look of Dior. Place de la Concorde, Paris August 1947".
Fashion illustrator Jacques Demachy also contributes some gorgeous work including 3 pages of Dior, Balmain, Mad Carpentier and Lelong.
Several pages of Demanchy drawings are printed on heavy stock of matt green and brown paper which allows the delicate highlights of white in his work to shine. Beautiful.
Demanchy also draws 4 hats by Dior across two pages.
Elsbeth Juda (of The Ambassador magazine) credited as Jay, shoots several pages of fashion.

Excellent condition especially as it's around 75 years old! There's some light chipping at the top of 1 or 2 pages near the spine, barely noticeable. A very rare and fine copy. The photo shows the actual magazine that you will receive. This is impossibly rare; the first copy we've seen in 20 years of looking - and we doubt will ever find again!
