MARILYN MONROE Norma Jean ANDRE DE DIENES Lucille Bradley PICTURE POST magazine
MARILYN MONROE Norma Jean ANDRE DE DIENES Lucille Bradley PICTURE POST magazine
This is the famous issue which has a very early and uncredited Marilyn Monroe on the cover. Marilyn was still Norma Jean at the time.
It is the same cover photo that Dutch magazine 'WereldKroniek' or 'Wereld-Kroniek' published a year later, in October 30, 1948. This PicturePost was the very first publication of this photo of Marilyn.
Norma Jean was photographed by Andre De Dienes for this cover. Andre began shooting Marilyn in 1945 when she was 19, and they began a love affair then a working relationship which lasted until 1953. His images of Marilyn are desired by serious collectors.
Inside is a 3 page feature on French fashion models working in Paris - see pic attached. Includes Schiaparelli's model Giselle Bak, also Lucille Bradley, Alla Ilitchoun, Olga Langen, Tao Porchen and others.
This is a 32 page oversized magazine measuring 13x10".
Dated 13th Dec, 1947.
*****
Amazingly rare artefact. These early issues of Picture Post are extremely difficult to find - there's only a finite amount of these old magazines left in the world!
Excellent condition - there is a small tear on one edge, see last photo. There is natural age to the magazine some light browning, see photos. Entirely normal for this type of newsprint paper.
This original magazine also comes from a smoke-free environment. All of our magazines are professionally stored inside acid-free archival and anti-UV plastic sleeves to protect from discolouration.
Scarce collector's item - posted with full insurance & online tracking. Mailed with an archival sleeve and a board and/or bubblewrap envelope. Many more rare fashion magazines in our shop...We are happy to combine post.
