Iconic fashion images; this is the sought after fashion shoot in Manhattan with the young Bailey and Shrimpton shooting from the hip on the streets of New York. A-mazing!!
This issue inspired the BBC film We'll Take Manhattan about English model Jean Shrimpton and London East End photographer David Bailey traveling to New York to photograph a fashion spread for this very edition of British Vogue.
Contains an iconic 16 page photo story which made huge waves in the world of fashion photography in the sixties. The BBC film starred Karen Gillan (from Dr.Who) as Jean, and it also tells the love story between the photographer and his muse. Famously, when Bailey and the Shrimp arrived at Diana Vreeland's office shortly after landing in America, the American Vogue editor proclaimed "England has arrived!"
The photographs are in both black & white and colour.
This issue also features:
2 pages of swimwear illustrations by Len Deighton (who worked as a graphic artist before his debut novel, The Ipcress File).
An article on 'Fresh Air in the Rag Trade' with 4 new talents profiled including David Bailey, all photographed by Peter Laurie.
Robert Carrier's cut-out recipe card with fabulous graphics.
Profile on Peter Ustinov.
Fashion editorials by Helmut Newton, Vernier and Don Honeyman.
Clothes by St Laurent and Harrods. Cover image by Claude Virgin.
An exceptionally rare and iconic issue.
Condition is very excellent. One area of damage to the spine unrelated to the Jean and Bailey etc content, and normal general age related wear to cover. Also see the back cover image of the YOUNG JAEGER ad.
Shipping includes tracking and insurance. We are happy to combine orders and pass on the savings to you.
