This is an extremely rare WWII American Vogue issue from April 15 1942. A scarce war-time issue dated 15th Apr 42, produced during WWII.
The cover was photographed by John Rawlings. The model wears a pink jacket, black skirt, black polka dot shirt and white coolie style hat.
Cover taglines - Our Ration-al Lives. New Possibilities in Food, Clothes, and Transportation in line with Wartime Rationing.
Horst photographs little Black Dresses.
8 pages of bridal features with several dresses.
Lots of war references as usual for these wartime issues. Highly collectable time pieces with fashion and historical content.
There is a fascinating article by Countess Waldeck about living in Germany before the war and the insidious and terrifying reality of the Nazi regimes re-ordering of society. It's well written putting the horrors in context and very poignant (1942 before everything was known about what was really going on) in 'Notes on Nazis' the state of personal life of love, books and women under Nazi rule.
There is a wonderful two page illustrated Red Shoe article.
A fascinating article about the Circus in times of war with photographs of clowns.
Excellent condition. There's one small clipping towards the back; a small 2" square piece torn of a hairstyle from page 83 - see 2nd last photo. Exceptional for a magazine of this vintage, you can see a photographs of the actual magazine front and back. Still incredibly rare and sought after.
