British Vogue magazine dated July 1940 and dedicated to France in the editorial (see photo where UK Vogue writes about the exodus and gallantry of the French).  Just amazing!

This is a historically important issue of Vogue that not only records the first refugees from 1940 Nazi-occupied France but also features a profile on the great illustrator Carl Erickson (‘Eric’).  Several pages from France including "The Erickson's - our first Refugees" with a poignant double page illustration by Carl Erickson.

The cover model is the very beautiful young actress Gene Tierney, long before she became famous for her films, when she was making a living from modelling.  Not many people are aware it is her as this issue rarely becomes available.  

This early wartime issue is packed with Paris couture including Elsa Schiaparelli, Balenciaga and Alix. 

Morale boosting 'Sea and Country' number with the London Mid-Seasons Collections (includes full page of the Schiaparelli jacket embroidered by Shocking Pink arrows teamed with Shocking Pink roses for the hat).

Fantastic and thrilling issue!

During World War II British Vogue was kept in print as a part of the war effort. One of its influences was to encourage people to recycle and contribute paper to the war effort. They sent their archives to be pulped and had features on taking part in the war effort. As a result any British Vogue pre 1945 are some of the rarest magazines on the planet.

Very good condition. The cover has some wear but the full magazine is in great condition.The photograph shows the actual magazine you will receive. Very scarce issue.
