This issue of Vogue comes as it was originally sold on the newstand - complete with the House & Garden supplement magazine still tied with the original string which has been thread through the specially made hole-punched slot to secure these two issues together.  Back in the 1910's, 1920's and throughout the 30s many issues of British Vogue were published like this, with a supplement magazine - either a Pattern Book, a beauty supplement, or one of these special interior magazines secured together.  They rarely come to market in this original condition.  Most of these 'Double Numbers' have been separated, though you will occasionally see these antique editions with holes in the corner near the top, you won't see them still together - and in such pristine condition!

Beautiful illustrated cover of an extremely rare 1930's issue of British Vogue.  An elegant scene of a woman wearing a purple checked suit walking her greyhound dog (who wears a matching jacket) along Pall Mall, with Buckingham Palace in the background.

This issue is focused on London fashions.

The attached House & Garden book has features on -

New colour schemes

New fabrics

Old and new cottages

Also in these two very special magazines - ANN TALBOT, drawings by BENITO, BRASS, CARL ERICKSON sketches, CENTRAL HEATING, Cezanne, CHRISTIAN BERARD colour fashion plates, clocks, COLLECTIONS, CRINOLINE, CURTAINS, DOGS, DOROTHY HYSON, DOROTHY WALKER, DORVILLE, Editor's Letter, GALERIES LAFAYETTE, gardening, GRETA GYNT, Harvey Nichols, HEALS, JAEGER AD, John Rawlings, LADY BARTLETT, fashion photography by LEE MILLER, LONDON COLLECTIONS, LONDON OPENINGS, NORMAN PARKINSON, PARIS, PETER RUSSELL, PLACE VENDOME, MARGARET RAWLINGS, RENE BOUET-WILLAUMEZ (RBW) fashion illustrations, RITZ HOTEL, SHOES, SPRING fashion, STEIBEL, STERLING SILVER, VICTORIA REGINA, VIYELLA etc etc

Plus Vogue Patterns.

Dated 5th October 1938, issue number 20.

We could snip the cord and sell these separately but it would be such a shame to break them up after surviving intact for nearly 100 years!

Excellent, both magazines in superb condition! Scarce x 2!

This magnificent 1938 vintage British Vogue is also extremely rare because...

During WWII,  UK Vogue was kept in print as a part of the war effort to raise moral.  When rationing and appeals for materials started Vogue appealed to their readers to donate their paper for the war effort. To get Vogue during the war you needed a subscription too so that there was no waste, no unnecessary issues printed increasing the scarcity further.
With all of this in mind you can understand why pre World War II Vogues are some of the rarest magazine ever.

This issue is focused on London fashions.
