Lee Miller writes and photographs in Brussels 4 pages with some wonderful images. More about this feature by the Lee Miller Archives:
“In February 1945, British Vogue published Lee’s article ‘Brussels—more British than London’ which detailed the surprisingly similar nature of the Belgian region to Britain’s capital.
In true Lee style, she met some familiar faces on the way. Simply titled ‘Rene Magritte and Others’, here we see the surrealist painter.... Following the German occupation of Belgium in 1940, Magritte created a series of colourful works in what is known as his ‘Renoir period’ from 1943-44 in order to cope with the stress and uncertainty which must he must have felt as an artist in a Nazi controlled region. The danger to art, and artists, and Magritte’s change in style, is touched upon by Lee in her article:
“The art treasures of Belgium came off very lightly. No one knows yet, of course, to what extent private collections were raided, whether by seizure or forced sale, but the national galleries are still intact with a few tragic exceptions. My favourite Modern Belgian painters were still in Brussels and in good health. […] Magritte had changed enormously. He has abandoned the dry, stilted manner like village posters, which I loved, and paints now like a streaky Renoir and has a passion for vari-coloured naked ladies and mystic bouquets. Pretty Lou Cosyns and Venetia Paridant opened a charming new gallery during the war and were able to show some of Magritte’s pictures discreetly”.

This is an extremely rare issue of British Vogue published during WWII - Vogue was fully involved in the war effort and they encouraged everyone to pulp and recycle paper for the wartime economy and as a consequence these issues are extremely hard to find in any condition.
Good condition - The cover has a corner piece missing, but the contents are in excellent condition - the photograph shows the actual magazine you will receive. Such an impossibly rare issue even with damage.
