Default Title

CHEAP DATE The Magazine for Thinking Thrifters

New York launch issue, 1999

Chloe Sevigny and Bay Garnett’s ironic ‘anti-fashion’ DIY zine style publication, CHEAP DATE spearheaded the craze for everything ‘vintage’ and made thrift/second-hand/old clothes cool.

Including Sophie Dahl, Harmony Korine and Jefferson Hack - this magazine features a roll call of the late 90’s kool kids.

This ’New York’ issue offers tips for customising your gear, Jayne County, Gram Parson’s Nudie Suit jacket and trousers reunited, an interview with Suicide’s Alan Vega, a lo-fi faux comic strip photoshoot by Ruvan Afanador with fashion darlings Karen Elson and Erin O’Conner and a guide to East Village thrift shops.

Photography by Ruven Afandor, Vesna Hildreth, Jeff Riedel, Micheal Sherry, Turtle, Annable Mehran and POPPY DE VILLENEUVE.

Illustrations by Jack Flanagan and Hugo Guinness.  We love the contrasting illustrated cover.
