This is an incredibly rare opportunity to own a complete run 1 to 10 of, perhaps, THE most iconic style magazine.

Issue 1 had a tiny print run - only 60 were sold! So the first issue is one of the most sought after magazies in the world!   We can confirm it's scarcity - it took us 15 years to complete this set! The Scars gold flexi disc record that came free with issue 3 is also included in this set.  Most seem to have been lost or mislaid in vinyl collections over the years.

i-D was a seminal magazine dedicated to fashion, music, art and the youth culture that was exploding in Britain at the time. It started in 1980 at the crossover between punk and the new romantics. The editor-in-chief and creator was the design legend Terry Jones. i-D pioneered the 'Straight Up' style of street fashion photography, which was a full length portrait of everyday people on the street.  Issue number 1 started with 15 pages of straight-ups and it was the signature content of the magazine styled by Nova magazine (also see our complete set of Nova available!) fashion legend Caroline Baker. It's amazing imagery, full of everyday DIY wear, patches sewn on jackets, band names and styles - lots of style!

Also look out for the beginnings of the New Romantics and a mix of 50's, 60's 70's and 80's style crossing over. The tribes are out in force - punks, goths, skinheads, mods, rockabillies, new romantics, hippies, teddie boys n' girls, new wave, bikers and sixties go go.  See Boy George in a nun's habit in issue 2, and then later in this set "George is in a band called 'In Praise of Lemmings' and is wearing clothes from Vivienne Westwood & Malcolm McLaren's Seditionaries and also his Dad's building site".

i-D's direct and bold graphics were it's other signature look and it went on to be a breeding ground for talent - Wolfgang Tillmans, Juergen Teller, Caryn Franklin, Dylan Jones, Craig McDean, Nick Knight all had their first breaks working for i-D. The list of incredible international talent that have appeared include Madonna (on her very first magazine cover), John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Kanye West, Helmut Lang, Chloe Sevigny, Raf Simons, Veronique Branquinho and Rick Owens are amongst those who were first introduced to the world via its pages.

People featured in the first 10 issues include Adam Ant, Soft Cell, Pierre et Gilles, Jordan, Marilyn - and locations include the Blitz and Le Palace night clubs, World's End, NYC, London and Paris.

The magazine is stil in print, a testament to its consistent integrity and promise to:

'Originate, don't imitate'

The condition overall is excellent. Some issues have light wear.  Issue no. 5 (The dark blue customise Princess Diana cover) has some wear to the spine.
