David Hamilton was originally an art director for French Elle, working under the Bauhaus trained Peter Knapp, in the early 1960s. 

He later returned to work for the French edition of Elle as a photographer, and this is one of only two issues that Hamilton shot the cover for.
Plus an accompanying 5 page fashion shoot by Hamilton.  Full page and in colour.  Models wear sarongs and saris and are photographed at the beach.
